My PCOS Story

I was a teenager when I was first diagnosed with hormonal imbalance. I had all the usual symptoms, though mild. My biggest issue was my irregular cycles, which lasted more than 100+ days. When that’s the case, it’s hard to time ovulation resulting in difficulties conceiving.

Around 2015, I went to an OB to get my PCOS under control. I was fortunate to meet Dr. Rowena Dueñas. She was so kind and I knew I was in good hands. She was very thorough. She asked to check everything, like the condition of my fallopian tube. When everything checked out, we went to work on regulating my hormones and period. Aside from the monthly checkups and meds, I also tried tracking my ovulation and generally staying healthy. That’s when I started reading up about Keto since my OB asked me to try going low carb. After six months of TTC, I stopped the meds to give my body time to rest naturally.

During our summer break, I suddenly had a lot of time and I jumped right into Keto. I did about 45 days of strict Keto, strictly tracking my macros, although no fasting. I just relaxed. I wasn’t even tracking my ovulation.

When we went to the Philippines for vacation, I wasn’t Keto but I was still relatively low carb. Then I found out I was pregnant. Alhamdullilah! God’s perfect plans. Just when I decided not to obsess about it, He gave me my blessing. Alhamdulillah!

I guess my point is, don’t lose hope yet. Keto can really help control PCOS symptoms. No crash diets, no yo-yo diets. I just focused on very low carb but nutritious food, no sugar, and a well-rested body. Finding a supportive doctor helps a lot.

Two years later, I’m Keto again so that I can keep up with my son. I plan to do this for the long run! KCKO!
